In this episode we will explore the artistic tradition that is Cedarburg. The historic districts are very walkable and we’ll take you on a tour starting with the unique shops, winery and restaurant at the Cedar Creek Settlement. The historic buildings once housed the city’s signature woolen mill along Cedar Creek. As we walk through the city, we’ll stop to visit with artists in their studios during the Arts Weekend Studio Tour, talk with artists on the sidewalk who are participating in the Plein Air competition. We’ll visit artisans making jewelry, delicious candy and bread. We’ll pay a visit to a scrapbooking convention and cut some rocks at the largest rock shop in the country. And that’s just the beginning.

The Upper Mississippi River area is a national treasure and two sparkling gems of that treasure can be found in the Wisconsin communities of Prairie du Chien and Trempealeau. Each area has its own unique river history, celebrated in its annual events, festivals or museums. Whether you’re touring the historic Villa Louis in Prairie du Chien or one of the river’s amazing locks and dam in Trempealeau, you’ll get a sense of the history and lure of the Mississippi River.

The Ice Age Trail is a thousand mile footpath that winds throughout the state of Wisconsin and is only in Wisconsin. It follows the path of the glaciers that moved into the area twelve thousand years ago and left behind some incredible landscape. In this episode we focus on four areas in the northwest where the trail and rock formations will leave you in awe. St. Croix Falls, Rusk County, Rice Lake and Chippewa County. You’ll learn more about the trail, which has also been designated a National Park and about the hundreds of volunteers who keep the trail beautiful through the Ice Age Trail Alliance. You’ll also learn more about what’s available for you to see and do in these four areas.

Most of the year, Warrens is a quiet town of about 350 people. But every year during the last full weekend in September, the streets are filled with more than one hundred-thousand people eating, shopping and laughing their way through the largest Cranberry Festival in the world. On this episode you’ll experience what it’s like to taste your way through more than 100 food booths. You’ll see arts and crafts you won’t find anywhere else. Join us on a cranberry marsh tour both at blossom time and just before harvest. And you’ll discover the wonderful world of cranberries at the Wisconsin Cranberry Discovery Center. The Black River Falls and Tomah areas both offer an endless array of outdoor recreation and attractions for visitors throughout the year. As we get out and play, we’ll be scuba diving on Wazee Lake, playing at Lunda Community Park, and simply traveling the many trails throughout the Black River Falls area. As we head to Tomah, we’ll pack the golf clubs, bikes, and kayaks to explore even more outdoor adventures. We’ll also visit the Necedah National Wildlife Refuge to find out what it really means to be immersed in Mother Nature. Manitowish Waters is a Northwoods paradise. Tucked away in cranberry country, Manitowish Waters highlights the fall season with its cranberry festival but offers plenty to see and do in all seasons. You can swim, fish or boat on the area’s chain of lakes, take in a local water ski show or cast your line for that record setting musky. And in winter, outdoor enthusiasts have miles of trails for skiing and snowmobiling. With unique lodging, great restaurants and the claim that both actor Johnny Depp and gangster John Dillinger spent time there, Manitowish Waters definitely has it all.
